This refreshing drink blends sweet watermelon with fragrant basil and zesty lime for a perfect summer sipper. It comes together in just ten minutes with simple ingredients for a hydrating and flavorful treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups cubed seedless watermelon, chilled
  • 1/2 cup fresh basil leaves, packed
  • 3 tablespoons fresh lime juice (from about 2 limes)
  • 2 tablespoons honey or agave syrup (adjust to taste)
  • 2 cups cold water
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • Ice cubes for serving
  • Extra basil leaves and lime slices for garnish

Instructions

  1. Cube the watermelon into rough chunks, removing any seeds if using seeded variety. Rinse basil leaves and pat dry.
  2. Add watermelon cubes, basil leaves, lime juice, honey, and a pinch of salt to a blender. Pour in cold water and blend on high for about 30 seconds until smooth.
  3. Pour the blended mixture through a fine-mesh strainer into a large pitcher. Use the back of a spoon to press the liquid through, discarding pulp and basil fibers.
  4. Stir the strained liquid well and taste. Adjust honey or lime if needed. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to let flavors meld.
  5. Serve over plenty of ice with a fresh basil sprig and a lime wheel on top.

Notes

For a lighter version, swap honey for a sugar-free sweetener like monk fruit or stevia. For a spicier kick, muddle a thin slice of jalapeno in the pitcher before adding the strained liquid. Store in a sealed pitcher in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Stir before serving as sediment may settle.
