This is the ultimate easy dessert, requiring just 10 minutes of prep. Layers of strawberry pie filling, chocolate cake mix, melted butter, and chocolate chips bake into a warm, gooey, and comforting treat. It's perfect for busy days when you need a homemade dessert without the fuss.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (21 oz) can strawberry pie filling
  • 1 (15.25 oz) box chocolate cake mix
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Pour the strawberry pie filling into a 9x13 inch baking dish. Spread it into an even layer.
  3. Sprinkle the dry chocolate cake mix evenly over the strawberry layer. Do not stir.
  4. Pour the melted butter evenly over the top of the cake mix, trying to cover as much surface area as possible.
  5. Scatter the chocolate chips evenly over the top.
  6. Bake for 45-50 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the edges are bubbly.
  7. Let the cake cool for 15-20 minutes before serving warm, ideally with vanilla ice cream.

Notes

Do not stir the layers. For a fresh strawberry version, mix 3 cups sliced strawberries with 1/3 cup sugar and 2 tbsp cornstarch and let sit 10 minutes before using. The cake can be stored covered at room temp for 2 days or refrigerated for up to 5 days.
