Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ pounds large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • ⅓ cup BBQ sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ to 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • Wooden or metal skewers

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together BBQ sauce, honey, olive oil, garlic, lime juice, smoked paprika, cayenne, onion powder, black pepper, and salt to make the marinade.
  2. Add shrimp to the marinade and toss to coat. Let marinate at room temperature for 10-15 minutes.
  3. If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for 30 minutes to prevent burning.
  4. Thread 4-5 shrimp onto each skewer, leaving a small space between each.
  5. Preheat a grill, grill pan, or broiler to medium-high heat. Lightly oil the grates.
  6. Place skewers on the grill. Cook for 3-4 minutes per side until shrimp are opaque, pink, and slightly charred.
  7. Optionally, brush with extra BBQ sauce in the last minute of cooking for a glaze.
  8. Remove from heat and serve immediately.

Notes

Do not marinate shrimp longer than 15-20 minutes at room temperature, as the acid can make them tough. Shrimp are done when they curl into a C shape and turn pink. Overcooking is the most common mistake.
