A quick and delicious mash-up of crispy smashed burger patties and tacos. Perfect for a fun, customizable weeknight dinner that combines the best of both worlds in under 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce (optional)
  • 8 small flour or corn tortillas (street taco size)
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 large tomato, diced
  • 1/2 red onion, finely diced
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar or American cheese
  • Optional toppings: pickles, jalapeños, special sauce

Instructions

  1. Prep all toppings and warm tortillas by microwaving wrapped in a damp paper towel for 30 seconds or heating in a dry skillet.
  2. Gently combine ground beef with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce (if using). Divide into 16 small, loose balls.
  3. Heat a large cast-iron skillet or griddle over medium-high heat until very hot.
  4. Place a few beef balls in the skillet, leaving space. Cover with parchment paper and press down hard with a spatula, burger press, or saucepan to create thin, craggy patties.
  5. Cook patties undisturbed for about 2 minutes until edges are brown and crispy.
  6. Flip patties and immediately top each with a pinch of shredded cheese. Cook for another 60-90 seconds until cheese melts and beef is cooked through.
  7. Place two cheesy patties on each warm tortilla. Top with lettuce, tomato, onion, and other desired toppings.

Notes

For the best crust, ensure the skillet is very hot before adding the beef. Do not move the patties during the first 2 minutes of cooking. Components store best separately; reheat patties in a skillet to maintain crispiness.
