These simple, elegant skewers are the perfect party appetizer. They combine sweet cherry tomatoes, creamy fresh mozzarella, and fragrant basil for a classic flavor combination that is always a crowd-pleaser. Ready in just 15 minutes with no cooking required.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pint cherry or grape tomatoes
  • 1 (8-ounce) container fresh mozzarella balls (ciliegine or bocconcini)
  • 1 large bunch fresh basil leaves
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic glaze
  • Flaky sea salt, to taste
  • Freshly cracked black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Rinse the tomatoes and basil leaves. Pat them completely dry with a clean kitchen towel. Drain the mozzarella balls and pat them dry gently.
  2. Thread ingredients onto toothpicks or short appetizer skewers in this order: one tomato, one folded basil leaf, and one mozzarella ball.
  3. Arrange the assembled skewers on a serving platter.
  4. Drizzle the skewers generously with the extra virgin olive oil.
  5. Zig-zag the balsamic glaze over the skewers.
  6. Just before serving, sprinkle the platter with flaky sea salt and freshly cracked black pepper.

Notes

For best results, pat all ingredients very dry so the oil and glaze adhere. Assemble skewers up to 4 hours ahead, but add oil, glaze, and seasonings right before serving. For a dairy-free version, use marinated tofu cubes or plant-based mozzarella.
