A quick and comforting weeknight meal ready in 15 minutes. This savory-sweet ground beef stir-fry is served over rice for a simple, family-friendly dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound lean ground beef (90/10)
  • 1/3 cup low-sodium soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • Cooked white rice, for serving

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, black pepper, and red pepper flakes to make the sauce.
  2. Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up, until fully browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess grease if desired.
  3. Pour the sauce over the cooked beef. Stir well and let it simmer for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
  4. Remove from heat. Stir in most of the green onions and sesame seeds, reserving some for garnish.
  5. Serve immediately over cooked white rice, topped with the reserved green onions and sesame seeds.

Notes

For a leaner option, use ground turkey or chicken. Add vegetables like carrots or bell peppers with the garlic. A fried egg on top is a delicious addition. The beef mixture stores well for meal prep.
