A warm, fudgy single-serving cake ready in minutes. This easy dessert is made with pantry staples and cooked right in a mug. Perfect for a quick chocolate craving.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 tiny pinch salt
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil or melted butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a 12-ounce microwave-safe mug, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt with a fork until no lumps remain.
  2. Add the milk, oil (or melted butter), and vanilla extract to the mug. Stir with the fork until just combined. A few small lumps are fine.
  3. If adding mix-ins like chocolate chips, fold them in gently now.
  4. Place the mug in the center of the microwave. Cook on high for 60 to 70 seconds. Start checking at 60 seconds; the cake is done when set on top and slightly pulling away from the mug's sides.
  5. Let the mug cake cool for 1 minute before serving. Enjoy directly from the mug.

Notes

Do not overmix the batter to keep the cake tender. Microwave power varies; start with 60 seconds to avoid overcooking. The cake will be extremely hot, so let it cool briefly.
