These elegant yet simple treats are the perfect festive dessert. The secret is perfectly dry strawberries for a glossy chocolate coating that holds colorful sprinkles beautifully.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound fresh strawberries (about 20-25 medium), with stems intact
  • 8 ounces high-quality chocolate bars or melting wafers (dark, semi-sweet, milk, or white)
  • 1/2 cup assorted sprinkles (jimmies, nonpareils, or seasonal mixes)

Instructions

  1. Prep the Strawberries: Gently rinse strawberries under cool water. Lay them on a clean kitchen towel or paper towels and pat thoroughly until completely dry. Let air-dry for 10 minutes if needed.
  2. Melt the Chocolate: Use a double boiler or microwave. For double boiler, simmer 1 inch of water in a saucepan, place a heatproof bowl on top (not touching water), add chocolate, and stir until smooth. For microwave, heat chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl at 50% power in 30-second bursts, stirring after each, until smooth.
  3. Prepare for Dipping: Line a baking sheet with parchment or wax paper. Pour sprinkles into a shallow bowl.
  4. Dip and Decorate: Hold a strawberry by its dry stem and dip into melted chocolate, coating about 3/4 of the way up. Let excess drip back into bowl. Immediately roll or sprinkle the wet chocolate with sprinkles.
  5. Set the Chocolate: Place decorated strawberry on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat with remaining berries. Transfer tray to refrigerator and chill for at least 30 minutes, or until chocolate is completely firm.

Notes

Ensure strawberries are bone-dry to prevent chocolate from seizing. Decorate with sprinkles immediately after dipping while chocolate is still wet. Store in a single layer in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 1-2 days. Best served the same day.
