Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips (plus more for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9x13 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth.
  3. Whisk in eggs and vanilla extract until glossy and combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing with a spatula just until no dry flour remains.
  6. Gently fold in 2 cups chocolate chips.
  7. Press dough evenly into prepared pan. Sprinkle extra chocolate chips on top.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes, until edges are golden brown and center looks just set.
  9. Cool completely in pan on a wire rack for at least 1 hour before lifting out and cutting.

Notes

Let melted butter cool slightly before mixing to avoid cooking the eggs. Do not overmix the dough after adding flour to keep bars soft. Bars will continue to set as they cool. Store in an airtight container at room temperature.
